On May 9 and 10, the most ambitious educational event in the forest sector in Latvia – “Forest ABC”, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, took place in the “Strunkukrogs” in Padure parish, Kuldiga region. The event was attended by approximately 6,000 students, their parents and teachers from various regions of Latvia over the two days.
For the first time, we, the manufacturer of spring and natural mineral water VENDEN, also participated in this event. The stop “Where Water Lives” we created was one of 64 that awaited young and old participants of the event in the forest. On both Friday and Saturday, we invited all interested parties to learn more about the water cycle in nature, its importance in human daily life, as well as to test their knowledge by answering various questions – what percentage of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, what percentage of the water resources on Earth are freshwater, and what part of it is safe for consumption, where is VENDEN water obtained, from which historical city the name VENDEN comes from, and others. Visitors to the stop were happy to get involved in the activities and filled their water bottles with VENDEN "Mezavots" spring water or VENDEN natural mineral water. To the great joy of the younger visitors, the best ones also received prizes, but everyone could choose and receive one of three bright VENDEN KIDS animal temporary tattoos – with the lynx Louis, the hedgehog Dadzis or the woodpecker Vendenis.
The first day of the event was dedicated to school classes – children and young people from the oldest kindergarten groups to high school and technical school students could not only expand their knowledge about the forest, its importance and management, but also practically engage in various educational activities. The farthest journey, namely 320 km, was made to the event by a class from Valka, while the most represented was Kuldiga region. Children and teachers from Aizkraukle, Bauska, Dobele, Jelgava, Ogre, Riga, Tukums, as well as other cities in Kurzeme also participated in the event. In total, 262 classes from different parts of Latvia applied for the event.
On the second day, May 10, the doors of “Forest ABC” were open to families and all interested parties. On this day, visitors could try their skills in building houses for owls, starlings and small birds, building bridges, get acquainted with forest machinery, plant trees, participate in environmental workshops and other creative activities. Special attention was paid to many interesting activities for children, which will both introduce them to the forest and help them understand the processes taking place in nature and how work is done in the forest.
After the event, we received countless positive comments from the organizers, participants and visitors. We were happy to be a part of this event and meet so many curious children, their teachers and parents!
